The earlier you ask these questions, the easier they are to fix. Waiting too long means costly rebuilds or delays.
Smart times to involve us:
- Before submitting any planning applications
- At early layout and structural design phases
- During builds where changes affect fire routes
- Weeks before final handover to check finished work
- After occupation to review how people are using the space
We stay flexible and work around your timeline, whether it’s one visit or multi-phase input.
Do I need a fire risk assessment before I start?
Yes. A fire risk assessment at the design stage prevents issues that stall progress. It reassures building control, lenders, and insurers and cuts down later changes.
Is this different from a normal risk assessment?
Yes. A conversion risk assessment covers both the current condition and your future plans. It looks for layout, use, and occupancy conflicts that standard reports might miss.
Will one visit be enough?
That depends on the project. Smaller jobs may need only one visit. Larger projects with many moving parts benefit from staged reviews. We agree this with you up front.
What documents do you need?
We ask for drawings, fire strategy if available, and any past assessments. Planning and building control notes also help. Structural reports save time if they cover hazards or old materials.
Can you help if I already had issues with building control?
Yes. We review what’s been said, visit the site, and help build a proper response. Then we draft or update your fire risk assessment to help close the issue properly.
Where do you work?
We work across England and Wales. From Salisbury, we support city centres, market towns, and complex rural conversions. We also work on portfolios spread out over several areas.
